Sandy

Alexandra (Sandy) Duncan

(E - RYT AYA) - Certified Yoga Instructor

Base: St. Anton am Arlberg

Alexandra (Sandy) Duncan (E - RYT AYA) started practicing yoga as a teenager. As yoga helped Sandy with several physical and mental challenges, she decided to share her experience and teach others.

During several trips to California, studying at yoga and meditation schools, such as the Nyingma Buddhist institute in Berkeley, she furthered her knowledge and practice in mindfulness-based meditation and yoga.

A few years later, Sandy stayed at the renowned Himalayan Institute in Pennsylvania/USA for several months to further study the eight fold path of yoga, Ayurveda - Yoga and underwent her second yoga teacher training. Currently Sandy is undergoing extensive training in myofascial release with functional fitness expert Jill Miller and incorporates fascia work into all of her yoga sessions.

Additional and ongoing training in yoga anatomy, the science of chakras, and alignment sound  Asana continue to inspire Sandy's unique style of yoga - a combination of gentle and flowing sequences to harmoniously align the physical body, the mind and the heart.

Herself an experienced skier, Sandy is a qualified ski instructor and works by day instructing in St. Anton am Arlberg. She has been teaching yoga since 2008 and as such has a natural understanding of the parallels between the mountain sports and yoga and incorporates this knowledge into her ski yoga classes - strengthening and releasing all involved muscle groups,  establishing effective breathing and growing the power of the mind.

Fun facts

First great snow experience: My first off piste experience as a child, "being initiated"  skiing the  wonderful powder in Schafsglieger / Kapall

Guilty pleasure: a piece of homemade, warm apple strudel and a cup of Earl Grey tea after a long day on the mountain, preferably in front of a cozy fireplace

Favourite spot in St Anton: tough one, as there are so many to choose from. But the view from Vallugagrat is outstanding on a clear day

Some words of wisdom that inspire her:

"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion" H.H the 14th Dalai Lama
